#BreakTheBias

Imagine an equal world, where men and women are both given the same opportunities, allowing the best to succeed, purely on the basis of their merit and capability. Imagine a world where we embrace the talent and hardwork of women and give them equal prominence. Imagine a world free of stigma around working women, free of stereotypes and discrimination. A world where the difference is valued and appreciated to form a stronger force which can truly create change.

International Women's Day is observed annually on the 8th of March. It was initiated over a century ago as a means to celebrate the many achievements of women across various fields whilst accelerating the fight for gender equality.

Whilst we have drastically evolved since the initial celebrations of Women's Day, the fight continues through missions that need to be accomplished to further support women in their endeavours and give them the liberty and ease to showcase their best versions to the world without having to struggle at every step of the way.

As we look back, we have alot of milestones to celebrate with regard to women's equality and their achievements, however the biggest celebration is that of their journey. One that's filled with doubt, sacrifice and constantly having to prove themselves worthy. A woman wanting to do an MBA will often get questioned if she is sure, and maybe she should reconsider, however there's very few who will empower her to fearlessly chase her goals. It's these little things that damage the confidence and perspective of many women who then consume themselves in wallows of self doubt.

This is where the fight continues, as we commemorate women, while also trying to bring forth a stance which sides with equality for both women and men. Herbert, The question remains, how do we go about this? What are the little changes we can incorporate in order to give women their space and prominence.

  1. Spread awareness - women around the world should know their worth, they should know to stand up for themselves and unleash the strength and power that resides within them. This can be made possible only through awareness which encourages not just women, but men to empower women too.
  2. Elevate visibility of women's creatives - give credit where credit is due. Base this on talent and creativity and not gender. Allow women to feel like they are capable of doing great things by giving them the motivation they deserve.
  3. Create workplaces where women thrive - eliminate any wage gaps between men and women, pay equally for the work they do. Allot leadership positions for women if they've strived to reach that position. Ensure that women at the workplace are safe and will be heard in case of any sexual harrassment caused at the workplace.
  4. Promote equality in fields which are considered to be male-dominant - There is no such thing as a man's job, if a woman does it, it can be a woman's job as well. The important part is to destroy such stereotypes and allow both men and women to excel in fields which they are good at.

These simple practices, or missions rather, are a step towards progress that garners an ambition of gender equality in this world. Together we can make it happen, together we can #BreakTheBias
